Ashford Drum Carder - Coarse Teeth This new, improved model has two ratios for even more flexibility and control when carding and blending:
Use the 6:1 ratio to prepare your fleece. The controlled intake and carding will produce a smooth even batt ready for blending, spinning or felting.
Use the 4:1 ratio to blend sliver, colours and different fibre types consistently into an open and airy batt.
The new carder retains the adjustable drum clearance - allows you to set the teeth distance for total control of your fibre. All nylon bearings ensure it is light and easy to turn. The card cloth has wire teeth with a special protective coating and a flexible rubber backing for long life. The carder is strong and robust with the body made from Silver Beech hardwood. The carder has rubber feet to prevent it slipping. Card 50 gm (2oz ) batt quickly and efficiently. It comes assembled and lacquered ready to use. Awl/doffer, 2 clamps and carding instructions are included. Batt size 55cm x 23cm (22ins x 9ins)- Weight only 5kg (11lb)
Choose either- Fine 72 point for finer wools & exotic fibres- Coarse 36 point for stronger wools or fibre with more vegetable matter to remove. |

Strauch Double Wide Drum Carder For those who need a larger production rate, a "Finest double wide" (also known as the Model 405x2) is available. Part of the flagship "Finest" model series, this top of the line model is unique and comes complete with all available features including the Brush Attachment.
This is also a chain drive carder and has a pulley attached to the crank so that the carder can be motorized by the end user.
The wood frame is ash with a warm honey-oak finish. The large drum on the double wide models is 15" wide, with the same 7" diameter as the standard carder and produces a batt approximately 14" wide x 22" long. Overall dimensions are 18-1/2" wide x 24" long. The frame is 6" high. An important feature: Since the swing of the handle clears the table surface, the carder can be placed anywhere on the work surface.
This unit is equipped with the #05 (128 psi) card cloth and "Slicker-Licker" (SL). The 6" high frame permits a larger sprocket on the small drum. This makes a 5:1 ratio between the drums, which allows more carding action per revolution. This 5:1 ratio allows for minimal turning of the large drum to produce an excellent, well blended batt; 2-3 passes are sufficient.
Special tools included with each "Finest double wide" are:
* The popular Knuckle-Saving-Batt-Pick, an invaluable tool for removing the batt without damage to the equipment or the user.
* Doffer/Cleaner Brush to thoroughly and easily clean any residual fibers from the carding drum.
* A small cleaner/dabber brush for use on the licker drum.
* The new Teasing Tool to open locks and tease fiber prior to carding.
* Table clamps to secure the carder to the work surface. Will fit tables up to 1-3/4" thick. |

Strauch Finest Drum Carder The flagship model is the "Finest" (also known as the Model 405). This top of the line model is unique and comes complete with all available features including the Brush Attachment.
Having a chain as the drive mechanism provides a constant positive non-slipping action while carding and is far superior to belt drives.
The wood frame is ash with a warm honey-oak finish. It has a 7" diameter x 7-3/4" wide working drum and a 2" diameter x 8" wide licker drum producing a batt approximately 7" wide x 22" long. The overall length of the machine is 24" and 11-1/2" wide with a 6" high frame. An important feature: Since the swing of the handle clears the table surface, the carder can be placed anywhere on the work surface.

Strauch Motorized Doublewide Drum Carder By popular demand, I have now developed a series of chain drive drum carders. This will cover all the chain drives: the regular "Finest", the "Finest-doublewide", the 200 series and the 200x2 series. In addition, existing Strauch hand crank chain drive models can be upgraded to the motorized version."
Note: the Petite cannot be motorized because it is a light duty machine and not constructed to withstand the stresses imparted by the motor.
Being an engineer, I designed these machines to be truly unique in the marketplace and built with the same high standards as the hand crank models.
They are "high tech" drum carders having both infinitely variable speed AND reversibility features. The "truly variable speed" feature (not just two or three speed settings) is a God-send when working with fine fibers like alpaca, merino and cashmere.
My carders will use very high quality, durable, electronically controlled motors that are made in the USA!. All these machines have been extensively beta tested by some "heavy duty" fiber artists and they all have raved about the design, workmanship and durability.
Yes, a 230 volt version is also available to serve the international markets.
FEATURES & BENEFITS:
* Timesaving; both hands are free to allow the fiber artist to control how the fiber is being carded or blended.
* Those with wrist, elbow and/or shoulder issues will find carding with a Strauch motorized machine painless and relaxing.
* The ability to card fibers at a consistent and reproducible speed will make consistent batts. Folks wanting to process lots of fiber (i.e.. a cottage industry to make money!) will find these carders remarkable.
* The motor and electronic controller were engineered to be quiet, robust, dependable, self-diagnostic and trouble free. |

Strauch Petite With Brush Attachment The Petite is a manual drum carder with a polyurethane drive belt. This carder is part of our product line specifically for fiber artists who have budget or space considerations but want Strauch quality.
The Petite is an excellent choice for a mid-sized carder with full sized features. The Petite is slightly smaller (6½" wide drums) than the standard chain drive (-3/4" wide) models. As with the chain drive models, the 05 fine cloth on the large drum and "Slicker-Licker" on the small drum is standard.
Unique to this carder is that it is available in kit form as well as fully assembled. Kit comes with everything you need. A word of caution, however, being a belt drive carder, it is designed for the occasional user. If you plan to do a lot of fiber processing, consider the durability of the chain drive series.
Special tools included with each Petite (both kit and assembled) are:
* The popular Knuckle-Saving-Batt-Pick, an invaluable tool for removing the batt without damage to the equipment or the user.
* Doffer/Cleaner Brush to thoroughly and easily clean any residual fibers from the carding drum.
* A small cleaner/dabber brush for use on the licker drum.
* Table clamps to secure the carder to the work surface.
