Description
Herdwick is a sheep not known for its fleece – this is sturdy stuff. It makes fantastic tweed and overcoats – Beatrix Potter used her flock’s wool for her suits. It’s great for rugs, does tend to be kempy. But has a really lovely gray coloring. This fleece does have some matting at the butt end but it opens up with little difficulty, especially after a good scour. The staple length is particularly long, so the butt was not unexpected. It has light to moderate FM and cleans to a lovely grey tweed. There is some mating dye left but it will wash out.
